LATAM_ 8AppsYouCantTravelWithout_free

It’s not common nowadays to travel without our beloved smart phones, this means more and more travel apps are popping up. However it can be impossible to keep track of which are actually useful and good to have. Here we share the 8 travel apps one should never go without.

Little tip:
Download all apps when connected to Wifi

Definitions:
Android – mobile operating system used by Samsung, Motorola and Nexus phones and tablets
iOS – mobile operating system used on Apple phones and tablets
Data needed - apps which require constant internet or WiFi connection.

Uber (Android, iOS, free, data needed)
The app that has taken over the UK has now taken over the rest of the world, functioning in over 200 cities. With low fares charged directly to a credit card, registered drivers and maps showing proximity, its utility cannot be denied, especially when abroad in unfamiliar places. Available in the following Central and South American cities: Belo Horizonte, Bogotá, Brasilia, Cali (Colombia), Lima, Medellín, Panama, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago and Sao Paulo.

Instagram (Android, iOS, free, data needed)
Want to make your friends green with envy while your exploring the world? Then Instagram is the app for you! This exciting new form of social media allows you to share sumptuous-looking images and videos with followers and filter them to perfection.

PackPoint Packing List Travel Companion (Android, iOS, free, no data needed)
Don’t be phased by the long name - the days of writing out a packing list and still forgetting the essentials are long over with PackPoint! It cleverly customises a list based on the destination, type of travel, activity, weather and length of trip. Once created, it is easy and quick to tick off items whilst packing.

Google Translate (Android, iOS, free, data needed)
Using a foreign language dictionary whilst mid-conversation can be difficult and time consuming, which is one of the many reasons why Google Translate has become one of the most popular apps to use whilst abroad. Choose between 57 languages then simply read or listen to your translated phrase. A great app to save you from those tongue-tied moments.

Been (Android, iOS, free, no data needed)
If your bucket list is made up of travelling the world, then there’s no better app than Been. It allows you to input the countries which you have visited, then shows the percentage of world and continents you have travelled to. A cool and easy way to keep track of your travels.

WhatsApp (Android, iOS, £0.69p, data needed)
If you suffer from nomaphobia (fear of being away from a mobile phone – according to the Oxford dictionary!) like I do, then it is likely that you are already using WhatsApp. If not, then make sure to download as soon as possible! The app allows you to send and receive texts, audio messages and images for free as long as you have internet access. It’s the perfect way to keep in contact with your loved ones back home in between venturing off on next day trip.

Journey Latin America Travel App (Android, iOS, free, data needed)

Too many emails involved in planning your next holiday? Our app powered by Vamoos allows you to view your travel documents on-the-go as well as downloading it directly to your phone or tablet. It will also give you access to route maps, weather information, restaurant recommendations from fellow clients and a fun timer giving a live count-down to your holiday. Genius!

Foodspotting (Android, iOS, free, data needed)

It can be hard to find your food cravings when abroad, that’s why we put our trust in Foodspotting. Instead of following reviews based on pricing, you get a visual image of nearby dishes with review of not only the restaurant but individual dishes too. It is easy and simple to track down what you’re looking for as well as locate the best dish nearby.

Although most apps require data to function, many operators now offer packages which can be added on to phone contracts instead of paying massive fees for individual use. Get in touch with your operator to see what is the best for you.
