How do I travel from Buenos Aires to Esquel?

La Trochita, Old Patagonian Express in Argentina

I’m afraid you can no longer travel by train from Buenos Aires to Esquel. If you are keen to travel overland, there is a very good coach service linking the two destinations. There are daily departures but it will take roughly 24 hours.

If you would like to experience a train journey in Argentina, then I recommend the Old Patagonian Express (known locally as ‘La Trochita’) which departs from Esquel to Maitén. I made the journey in early 2013 and it was superb.
