Unique Stays
Sometimes where you sleep is the trip. Latin America has places to stay you won’t find anywhere else. A former hacienda in the Andes, a lodge on stilts over the Amazon, a cabin under the peaks of Patagonia, a guesthouse among the vines of Mendoza. A holiday built around unique stays makes the room part of the adventure, not just somewhere to rest between the sights.
What counts as a unique stay
These are the properties with a story, a setting or a style you’ll remember long after. It might be a design lodge with a glass wall onto a glacier, a converted colonial mansion in a UNESCO old town, a working estancia where you ride out with the gauchos, or a treehouse deep in the cloud forest. Some are remote and simple, others quietly luxurious. What they share is individuality, something you can’t get in a standard hotel. The trick is knowing which ones are worth the detour.
Where to find unique stays
They’re scattered right across the region. Patagonia has design lodges built for the views. The Amazon, in Peru, Ecuador and Brazil, has canopy lodges and floating riverboats. Argentina and Chile have vineyard guesthouses and remote estancias. Bolivia has hotels built of salt on the edge of the Uyuni flats, and Mexico and Guatemala have haciendas and colonial boltholes. We’ll thread a few standout stays through your trip, or build the whole thing around them.
Planning a trip around unique stays
Remote and rustic or polished and private, there’s a route that links the best of them. The photographs only tell you so much, so ask us what a place is actually like before you book – and we can make sure you get there.
