Whilst Quito has no shortage of hotels within the city centre sometimes it is nice to escape the hustle and bustle to enjoy the more serene outskirts. Ilatoa Lodge has the perfect setting, nestled on the slopes of the (extinct) Ilaló Volcano with expansive views of Quito in the valley below.
With only 6 comfortable and airy bedrooms each with huge picture windows and local artwork you’ll find a personalised and friendly service during your stay. There is a restaurant offering set local dishes, a small garden to explore (and maybe spot a hummingbird or two), and there’s even a wine cellar if you want to indulge.
The location is around a 30-minute drive from both Quito Airport and the old city centre (depending on traffic) and you can also head to the crater of the Ilaló Volcano, which makes for a challenging, but rewarding uphill hike. The out-of-town location also means you can more easily visit the amazing sights around Quito, from the cloud forest in the north to Cotopaxi Volcano to the south.
