Hacienda San Agustin de Callo
Sympathetically restored colonial hacienda, with original Inca walls and a number of lovely features like open fires in the rooms and antique bathtubs. A great base for exploring Cotopaxi National Park.
The colonial Hacienda San Augustin de Callo is a special, romantic base from which to explore nearby Cotopaxi National Park. It has great character and has been sympathetically restored, with antique furniture, large open fires and antique bathtubs in some of the rooms.
Built on the site of a 15th century fortress, the building still has some of its original Inca walls. In 1921, it was bought by General Leonidas Plaza Gutierrez, leader of the Liberal revolution and former President of Ecuador, and remains in the family to this day.
Nestled within the fertile valley of Latacunga, the hotel is an hour and a half’s drive from Quito and is surrounded by the outstanding scenery of Cotopaxi National Park. Fauna includes an abundance of birds as well as spectacled bear and Andean fox. The hacienda is a great starting point for a number of activities in the countryside, including horse riding, mountain biking, fishing, hiking, and visiting the vibrant Indian markets in the nearby foothills.
