Known as the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ for its reliable sunshine, Medellín is a vibrant city with plenty of leafy plazas and cultural events.

Overview

Medellín, long synonymous with the activities of its most infamous resident Pablo Escobar, has undergone a miraculous transformation in recent years.

Now considered the engine of Colombia, the city is bursting with artistic and commercial enterprise, with top quality gastronomy, music and raucous partying. There is little of Spanish colonial heritage, as the drive towards modernisation has resulted in glittering, modern buildings and parks featuring sculptures and street art.

Medellín hosts many festivals and other social events, the most famous being the flower festival, which takes place in August every year and features a parade of floral floats, the most colourful in Colombia.

Wander around, take the cable car, then eat at one of the internationally renowned restaurants, and feel the vibe of youthful optimism and pride which permeates the city. It’s also a good base for visits to other attractions with good road and air links to many parts of the country, including the nearby coffee region, the Pacific beaches at Nuqui, and hikes in the surrounding hills.

The weather in Medellin is wide and varied

Known as the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ for its reliable sunshine and pleasantly warm climate, Medellín is a great destination any time of year. The temperate climate means bursts of rain can be expected during any month, though the most rain falls April - November and the least in December - February and July. Expect stable temperatures in the high 20°Cs. Visit in August to see the magnificent Feria de las Flores parades and decorations, where locals who cultivate flowers in the fertile mountains come together to show off their most impressive blooms and floral floats.
