Charity Work

Journey Latin America currently supports the LATA Foundation, a UK based charity that approves and funds projects throughout Latin America. These include projects to reduce poverty and environmental conservation.

Since its launch in 2009, many small NGOs and projects have benefitted from funds raised by the LATA Foundation. of funding, please visit http://www.latafoundation.org/

OTHER WORK WITH CHARITIES

In addition to working with carbon reduction projects in Latin America, Journey Latin America has helped a number of small local charities to whom our financial support could make a real difference. Here are just some of charities we have enjoyed supporting in the past:

Dental Project Peru – supplying dental treatment to communities in the Apurimac region of Peru. Poor dental hygiene can lead to loss of livelihoods and lack of school attendance, and this charity sought to teach the local people about the importance of dental hygiene. We encouraged clients to get involved by sending them out with a toothbrush, and encouraging them to also donate.

New Life Mexico – supporting thousands of children who have been abused physically, emotionally and sexually through addressing their health and education needs.

Que Rico! – a grassroot charity in Bolivia which helped to fund the care of children burn victims, a common tragedy in a country where cooking on open fires is common practice in poorer households.

Other achievements and initiatives over recent years include:

Following catastrophic forest fires in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile, at the beginning of 2012, we participated in Reforestemos Patagonia’s programme of replanting native trees in national parks and reserves which have been affected by fires, by donating a tree for every booking to the area we made that season.

2010 marked Journey Latin America’s 30th anniversary and as part of the celebrations we embarked upon a challenge to get 30 of our key hotels in Latin America to reduce their water and energy consumption. A few heralded results in just 12 months, cutting their water bills as well as helping the local environment.
