Georgetown walking tour and market experience

Enjoy a guided tour around Georgetown.
Enjoy a guided tour around the largest market in Georgetown, accompanied by a renowned local chef. Inspect the fish, meat, haberdashery and tropical fruit stalls, while chatting to the vendors and learning about some of the more unusual produce on sale. Try some delicacies before requesting a selection of ingredients for the chef to purchase and prepare as part of your lunch while you continue the tour with your main guide.
Georgetown has a fascinating story to tell. The Dutch blueprint was used to create the city’s rectangular pattern with wide, tree lined avenues and irrigation canals. Most of the buildings are wooden with architecture dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. There are several excellent examples of old British colonial homes, such as the State House, built in 1852. Among the other historic sites you will visit are: the 1892 St. George’s Cathedral, one of the world’s tallest free standing wooden buildings; the Town Hall, a splendid example of Gothic architecture; and the Victoria Law Courts. You will also dip into another market, Stabroek, which sells every conceivable item from household goods and gold jewellery to fresh meat and vegetables.
After lunch, head to the Botanical Gardens which are home to an extensive collection of tropical flora and fauna that form part of a rescue and rehabilitation project.
