Torres del Paine National Park holidays

Spiralling granite towers, serrated massifs and turquoise lakes define one of the most spectacular national parks, where grasslands give way to glacial valleys, rivers and glassy lagoons. Torres del Paine is Chile's flagship natural destination, and Torres del Paine holidays remain one of South America's finest options for hiking, wildlife watching and immersive wilderness experiences.

What to expect from your Torres del Paine holiday

This is the pinnacle of Chile’s natural landscapes and fast becoming one of the world’s most popular destinations for walking holidays. Cuernos del Paine, the granite massif at its heart, has been sliced apart into needle-sharp spires by centuries of glacial action; beyond stand the vertical triple towers of the Torres themselves.

Wind-battered grasslands lead up into sheltered glacial valleys thick with flowery meadows, while torrential rivers surging with meltwater interlace with glassy lagoons throughout the park.

Hikers can tackle the world-renowned W Trek, the Glacier Grey trek, the walk to Los Cuernos, or shorter day walks to many of the park’s most iconic viewpoints. Wildlife is abundant throughout: guanacos graze the plains, condors soar overhead, and pumas occasionally make an appearance, particularly during the quieter winter months between April and October.

When to visit Torres del Paine National Park

Torres del Paine can be visited throughout much of the year, though conditions vary dramatically by season.

These are the warmest months in Torres del Paine, with the best chances of clear skies to take in the staggering views of the park. Howling winds can reach 120mph, though chances of rainfall are at their lowest. This is the busiest time for visitors so wildlife may be harder to spot.

The weather cools and the landscape glows scarlet and gold with autumnal foliage. There is an increased chance of rainfall but also of spotting the more elusive wildlife of the park, including pumas.

The harsh weather conditions of winter mean some hiking trails will be inaccessible. The wild landscapes freeze over and glisten with snow. Many hotels are closed during these months, but you’ll enjoy the park’s attractions without crowds.

The meadows and mountainsides burst into bloom as temperatures warm up pleasantly, though rainfall is still likely. With fewer visitors, wildlife is easier to spot – this is an ideal time to go on a puma spotting tour with an expert tracker.
