‘Start your engines’ F1 heads to Mexico City

With the Formula 1 Grand Prix season recently underway, we wanted to share our excitement as it heads to Mexico City this November for the first time in 23 years. One of the most traditional circuits in the world, Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez based in Mexico City, has been modified since Nigel Mansell won in 1992. The ultra-fast banked right-hander at the end of the lap has been changed and it has been resurfaced to meet the FIA regulations. 

As many as 180,000 spectators and fans are expected over the three-day event, wanting to catch the thrills and spills as the nimble motor cars race round at phenomenal speed, which you can’t quite gauge from watching on TV, while the engines roar and tyres squeal.

This is an important occasion for Mexico; “it is a great opportunity to show the world what Mexico is and what we are capable of achieving” said Mexican F1 driver Sergio Perez, who is proud and delighted that his home country will be hosting the race once again this year.

As with any international sporting event amid the excitement of the F1 preparation and race itself, there’ll be time to explore the site, time to wander the myriad of shops offering heavily branded merchandise and grab some food from the variety of stalls dotted about.

This utterly thrilling event will be made all the more memorable as it takes place on the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) weekend, a national holiday where the country joins together to celebrate deceased friends and family.

Following 2014's runaway win for Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes team, all Formula 1 fans will hoping for a more competitive season this time around. But the likes of Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg and home-grown favourite Segio Perez will have to go big to beat the British favourite, especially on a track that over the years has proved a good stomping ground for his fellow countrymen, with among others Jim Clark winning 3 and Nigel Mansell 2 of the previous Grand Prix held here.” Jim Ashworth, Groups Manager.
