This escorted group journey is a superb introduction to Argentina’s impressive geography, eclectic mix of cultures, enthralling landscapes and world-renowned food and wine. The tour actually begins in neighbouring Chile, where you will explore Santiago and Valparaiso before flying over the Andes to the laid-back city of Mendoza. Enjoy a few days learning about the wine-cultivation process before heading north to the colonial city of Salta and its surrounding blood-red canyons. Spend a couple of days at the mighty Iguazú Falls wandering its walkways before finishing up the trip in the elegant and sophisticated city of Buenos Aires.

Our 12-day Gaucho: Vintage Argentina holiday starts from £2,658 per person.

2) Luxury Argentina: Vineyards, glaciers and gauchos

Argentina offers some of the best, most innovative and imaginative luxury accommodation on the continent. This private tour begins in Buenos Aires before visiting the wine-producing region of Mendoza where you’ll stay at the sophisticated and indulgent vineyard hotel Cavas Wine Lodge. You’ll then continue on to El Calafate on the banks of the milky, turquoise Lago Argentino in southern Patagonia from where you’ll explore the enormous Perito Moreno Glacier. While in Patagonia you’ll be staying at EOLO, a luxury estancia-style lodge which is situated on a working farm.

Our 15-day Luxury Argentina: Vineyards, glaciers and gauchos holiday starts at £7,780 per person.

3) Active Argentina: Walking in Patagonia

Home to some world-class treks, Argentina and Chile share immense tracks of wilderness steppe, snaking glaciers, iceberg-dotted lagoons and jagged ice-jacketed mountains. For this holiday we’ve combined two treks: one in Los Glaciares National Park and one in Tierra del Fuego. From Buenos Aires you’ll head to Los Glaciares National Park where you’ll have a guided excursion of the breathtaking Perito Moreno Glacier. Then begin the 3-day trek in the park on a long-recognised and popular route, renowned for its spectacular mountain views of the Fitz Roy massif, as well as vistas over crystal clear glacial lagoons. You’ll then fly to Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city on the island of Tierra del Fuego where you’ll start the ‘End of the World Trek’, a lesser-known hike through quiet ancient forest clinging to mountain cliffs, past hidden streams and overlooking vertiginous glaciers.

Our 14-day Active Argentina: Walking Patagonia holiday starts from £2,919 per person.

4) Self-drive Argentina: Patagonia, Lake District and Perito Moreno

This holiday for independent and adventurous travellers showcases two regions of Patagonia, the delightful Argentine Lake District and the wilderness landscape of snow-tipped mountains and glaciers in the far south. Begin in Buenos Aires, spending a couple of days exploring the city before flying south to Bariloche in the Lake District where you’ll pick up your rental car and take what is perhaps some of the finest routes in the Lake District, passing by beautiful lakes, national parks and picturesque villages. You’ll then drop the car off in Bariloche and fly to El Calafate where another rental car will be awaiting your collection. Drive to two of Patagonia’s finest national parks – Los Glaciares and Fitz Roy. Besides scenic drives, there are plenty of experiences to be had once you’ve parked the car, such as hikes and a visit to Perito Moreno Glacier.

Our 16-day Self-drive Argentina: Patagonia, Lake District and Perito Moreno holiday starts from £3,369 per person.

Bike through Buenos Aires and explore this sophisticated city before flying to the awe-inspiring Iguazú Falls where you’ll spend two days discovering the surrounding subtropical forest whilst staying at the Sheraton Iguazú Resort and Spa – the only hotel in Argentina’s Iguazú National Park. The hotel offers views of the falls and the unique chance to explore the park outside of opening hours. Next you’ll travel to the wine region of Mendoza where you’ll taste different varieties, learn about the wine-producing process and go white-water rafting in the snowmelt water of the Andes. Continue on to Bariloche in Argentina’s Lake District where you’ll stay at Estancia Peuma Hue, voted one of the top 30 eco-resorts in the world; from paragliding to tango classes, there are plenty of activities on offer here.
