Temple of Good Will

Gabriela Marinho shares her opinion on the intriguing Temple of Good Will (TGW) in Brazil.

The TGW is the most visited monument in the Brazilian capital (according to official data from the State Secretary of Tourism of the Federal District (SETUR-DF)). It is also on the official list of monuments for tourists to visit during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Known as the Temple of Peace, it is a mystical and spiritual icon. Its doors are open day and night to serve the needs of its visitors searching for a place to pray or meditate freely, according to their beliefs. There is no restriction on any kind of religious or non-religious, scientific, political or social thinking, or on any other field of human and spiritual activity.

It is large, with at least 12 main rooms which combine spirituality, culture, art, ecology and mysticism, such as the Egyptian Room, the Sacred Fountain, the Mandala, the Spiral and Nave of the Temple. The distinguished architecture arouses curiosity, as it has proportions and measurements linked to the number of perfection (the number 7). The monument is in the form of a pyramid, with 7 sides, and measure 21m in height - each detail in its plan has a reason for being.

Every day it receives people from around the world, like the members of Guns N'Roses. They recently walked on the Spiral, in the Nave of the TGW, and then went to the Egyptian Room, followed by producers and the crew!

Highlighted by SETUR-DF as the “headquarters of ecumenism in Latin America”, the Temple of Peace is a reference point in ecumenical pilgrimage. It is open 24 hours a day to the public. The entrance is free to most of its rooms.
