Following the news of the possible beatification of the murdered Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero, we, at JLA are the first UK travel company to offer travellers the opportunity to discover and celebrate the life and works of Monseñor Romero in El Salvador.
The bishop was one of the main proponents of Liberation Theology - an interpretation of Christian faith through the perspective of the poor – and also an outspoken critic of the military regime during El Salvador's bloody civil war. He was shot dead while celebrating Mass in 1980 and became known in the region as “El Santo de América” (America’s Saint). For years, the Roman Catholic Church blocked the beatification process because of concerns that he had Marxist ideas; Pope Francis has just lifted this ban.
We are introducing a half-day guided excursion from San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador, which visits several monuments and sites, such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Monseñor Romero Centre, and the Monument to Memory and Truth in both San Salvador and neighbouring Santa Tecla.
If this interests you, the excursion would fit in perfectly with our 15-day holiday visiting the highlights of Nicaragua and El Salvador – you can now book online or as always call one of our experts in the office on 020 8747 8315.
