Saddle up for an Inca Trail with a difference – you can now travel the Salkantay route to Machu Picchu on horseback.

On a unique week-long adventure, experienced riders can take on the challenge of an alternative Inca Trail on horseback.

The Salkantay Trail approaches Machu Picchu from a different direction, giving rise to its common description as a route to the ruins 'through the back door'. It is just as beautiful and even more varied than the conventional Inca Trail, with glaciers giving way to dense tropical foliage as the altitude drops. All the while the enormous snow-capped peaks of Andean mountains loom up over the horizon, framing the spectacular scenery.

Riding for around 4hrs a day, you'll stay in comfortable mountain lodges that provide a sanctuary of warmth, hospitality and hearty, delicious food to welcome you in from the elements at the end of each day. Most have al fresco Jacuzzi-style hot tubs where you can soothe your bones with a cold beer in your hand. After a rewarding week, you'll arrive at your goal to see Machu Picchu laid out before you.
