Blue whale watching in Loreto Bay

Go on a sea-borne expedition to spot the shy blue whale, the largest animal ever found on Earth.
The blue whale is a creature of extremes. At up to 30m long and with a maximum recorded weight of 173 tonnes, it is the largest animal known to have existed on Earth - ever, with all its constituent parts proportionately huge. It’s an endangered species, but each can live up to 110 years. There may be up to 25,000 whales living in the wild now, just a tenth of their numbers before whaling. The blue whale is a slim and elegant animal though, blue-grey in colour, and an extraordinary sight. Unlike the curious gray whales, it’s shy in the presence of humans, so you may have to take a boat ride quite far out to sea and wait a number of hours before sighting any. But if you do, it will be well worth your patience. Loreto Bay, in Baja California, offers you an excellent chance of spotting them.
