Giant river otter, black caiman and Victoria Amazonica waterlily boat excursion

Waterlilly Guyana

Take to the water in search of giant river otters, black caimans and Victoria Amazonica waterlilies.

The region around Karanambu Lodge takes the form of savannah, marshland, forest and waterways, meaning it can sustain an incredible variety of life in a comparatively small area. All activities from the lodge will offer multiple wildlife sightings, but a late afternoon boat ride will give you a wonderful chance of seeing some of the most iconic species in the region. Begin by seeking some of the giant river otters that have benefitted from the work of the late conservationist Diane McTurk, before witnessing the bizarre dusk blooming of hundreds of giant Victoria Amazonica waterlilies. The excursion ends with a spotlight search for black caimans – the largest member of the alligator family.
