Diving in the Galapagos

The Galápagos Islands shelter some of the world's best dive sites, offering the chance to gape at an astounding aquatic panorama where penguins dart through equatorial waters and vast shoals of hammerheads patrol the ocean.
The convergence of cold currents from Antarctica and warm tropical waters have created microclimates which sustain an incredible spectrum of marine species, many of which would not normally be neighbours. Galápagos fauna also had the chance to evolve far from human impact and therefore has no fear of people, so you may find yourself befriending a curious sea lion pup or getting up close to a marine iguana.
Diving conditions in the Galápagos can be technically challenging and are best-suited to experienced divers. However if you just want a taster, some cruises can arrange a day's diving in addition to the usual programme of activities on the islands. Keen divers on the other hand can opt for a diving-only expedition on a specially licensed boat, ensuring a comprehensive introduction to the marine environments of the Galápagos.
