Hike to Fidel’s Sierra Maestra hideout

Trek through the lush mountainous landscapes of the Sierra Maestra to reach the revolutionary headquarters where Fidel Castro and his comrades plotted revolution.
Once a hotbed of revolutionary activity, the Sierra Maestra is now one of Cuba's premier trekking areas, with numerous trails weaving through lustrous vegetation framed by rippled mountain ridges. It was in this dramatic terrain that Fidel and his band of revolutionaries hid out after arriving from Mexico on the now legendary Granma.
You can visit the rebel headquarters, the Comandancia de la Plata, which now houses a small but atmospheric museum revealing their humble living conditions. It's worth it for the journey alone: a glorious hike through some of the country's most beautiful natural landscapes.
