Overview
The island of Cuba has stunning landscapes, from the unique limestone plateau scenery west of Havana, through tropical plantations, to the rugged mountains and forests of the Sierra Maestra in the east.
Cuba is liberally dotted with pristine sandy beaches and restored colonial towns. While the façades of the pre-revolutionary period remain, they sit alongside increasingly efficient new hotels, resorts, roads and other tourist facilities.

Where to go when - our guide to Cuba

The weather in Cuba is wide and varied
As the largest of all the Caribbean islands, Cuba is replete with diverse landscapes. From the verdant limestone outcrops of the west to the unspoilt forests of the eastern Sierra Maestra mountains, here the climate remains deliciously hot all year round. There are two distinct seasons. December - May sees the most visitors, with less chance of rain, lower humidity and temperatures in the high 20°Cs. During the wet season from June - November, there is increased rainfall, higher humidity and temperatures which creep above 30°C. This is a less popular time to visit, though June can be a good option as the heaviest rains have not yet set in. Between Aug and Nov there is a chance of hurricanes and tropical storms.
Cubans love to celebrate, and there are colourful street parades and cultural events which take place throughout the year, usually accompanied by contagious drumming rhythms and traditional dancing. Carnival in July is one of the biggest affairs, with glittering processions and blowout celebrations igniting the streets of Cuba’s major cities and towns.
