Overview

The island of Cuba has stunning landscapes, from the unique limestone plateau scenery west of Havana, through tropical plantations, to the rugged mountains and forests of the Sierra Maestra in the east.

Cuba is liberally dotted with pristine sandy beaches and restored colonial towns. While the façades of the pre-revolutionary period remain, they sit alongside increasingly efficient new hotels, resorts, roads and other tourist facilities.

Our Cuba Tours

Journey Latin America offers a diverse selection of Cuba holidays, suited to all; whether you're a solo traveller, looking to join a group tour, or searching for a family holiday

Experience Cuba in comfort on our Colonial classic and coast holiday. Stay in some of the country's most stylish accommodation, explore the colonial streets of Havana and Trinidad, and soak-up the sun on white sand beaches on the island of Cayo Santa María.

Join us for a group tour if you prefer to explore Cuba together with like-minded people. On our Parakeet: Cuba beyond the beach holiday you'll get to visit colonial Havana, hike to Castro's revolutionary hideout in the Sierra Maestra and relax on beautiful Caribbean beaches.

If you're adventurous in spirit, the most rewarding way to travel around Cuba is by driving your own hire-car. See the highlights of Cuba on the Self-drive Cuba: Best of the west holiday, or discover the less-visited eastern end of Cuba on our Self-drive Explore the east road trip. Walk around Havana's historic centre, drive through limestone landscapes in the Viñales Valley and explore colonial gem, Trinidad.

Where to go when - our guide to Cuba

Sierra Maestra

The weather in Cuba is wide and varied

As the largest of all the Caribbean islands, Cuba is replete with diverse landscapes. From the verdant limestone outcrops of the west to the unspoilt forests of the eastern Sierra Maestra mountains, here the climate remains deliciously hot all year round. There are two distinct seasons. December - May sees the most visitors, with less chance of rain, lower humidity and temperatures in the high 20°Cs. During the wet season from June - November, there is increased rainfall, higher humidity and temperatures which creep above 30°C. This is a less popular time to visit, though June can be a good option as the heaviest rains have not yet set in. Between Aug and Nov there is a chance of hurricanes and tropical storms.

Cubans love to celebrate, and there are colourful street parades and cultural events which take place throughout the year, usually accompanied by contagious drumming rhythms and traditional dancing. Carnival in July is one of the biggest affairs, with glittering processions and blowout celebrations igniting the streets of Cuba’s major cities and towns.
