Tierra Atacama
Stylish, contemporary boutique hotel with rustic chic design inspired by the colours and textures of the Atacama Desert.
Tierra Atacama is a stylish, contemporary property in a fertile oasis setting where Chile’s spellbinding Atacama desert meets Andean mountains and volcanoes. This boutique property was built on the site of an abandoned cattle corral, retaining the original adobe mud brick walls at its entrance. Lovingly designed to blend in with the surrounding landscape, the tones of subtle greens and browns reflect the desert vegetation and deep blues inspired by night skies. Travertine marble was sourced from local quarries and more than 40 local craftspeople contributed to the unique décor, including stone carvings, hand-painted maps and handwoven blankets.
The 28 spacious rooms and suites have satisfying mountain views from their expansive windows and private terraces, as well as stylish beds, handcrafted furnishings, lounge areas, central heating and luxurious ensuites with rainmaker showers or bathtubs. The property also has larger suites with fireplaces and private plunge pools, and family apartments with hot tubs. All accommodation is deliberately free from the distraction of television. The hotel restaurant uses fresh local ingredients including vegetables from its own garden, serving innovative gourmet takes on north Chilean cuisine. Meals are taken communally, adding to the informal, sociable atmosphere of the lounge and bar where guests can mingle in the evening, with ever-changing views from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Enjoy Andean cocktails from the bar, overlooking the silhouette of Licancabur Volcano. The Uma Spa basks in lush gardens with an outdoor infinity pool and hot tub, steam room, sauna, gym, yoga classes, candlelit treatment rooms and heated indoor pool under a bamboo canopy. You can also relax in the landscaped gardens or on a sunken sofa on the terrace, warmed by open fire pits.
There’s a choice of daily excursions including hikes, horse-riding, a day trip to the Tatio Geysers, bike rides and star-gazing onsite.
Tierra Atacama is proud of its environmental policy and was one of the first hotels in South America to produce solar-powered electricity. The property uses LED lighting and sources water from an onsite well with grey water used for irrigation. The landscaped gardens include 1,600 trees which act as a seedbank for indigenous species.
