Prepare a Patagonian king crab lunch

Spend a day in a remote fishing village in Tierra del Fuego, fishing for and cooking your own king crab lunch in a family home.
Here’s a way of really diving in and absorbing the culture of Patagonia’s litoral. Spend a day in a remote, traditional seaside fishing village, joining a local family as they go fishing for king crab. Back at the family home you'll be able to help with getting lunch ready, learning all along about the local way of life at the far-flung tip of South America.
Cocooned in a four-wheel-drive, follow a gravel road through dense native peat bog-pitted forest to Puerto Almanza, Argentina's southernmost fishing port. The history of nearby Navarino Island and the various controversial border issues with neighbour Chile is fascinating – your guide will tell you all about it.
Press on, shadowing the coast of the Beagle Channel to reach a small village, Puerto Pirata, dedicated to artisan-style fishing of king crab, crayfish, mussels, and other shellfish which flourish in this area. Take to a small boat to participate in the fishing of the spider crab; upon your return to the village you’ll learn how to prepare it in Patagonian style, cooked in sea water. Delicious!
