Sail across Lago Argentino to Estancia Cristina

upsalla glacier

Traverse the iceberg-strewn waters of Lago Argentino and visiting an historic estancia deep in the wilderness.

This full-day tour combines the inhospitable natural grandeur of Los Glaciares with the human story of a family who made it their home.

The morning begins with a voyage by boat across the iceberg-strewn waters of Lago Argentino towards Estancia Cristina. With only snow-strewn mountains and ice fields for neighbours, the historic estancia was founded by an English pioneer in 1914. It's truly remote here, and the estancia's dramatic location makes it a wonderful focal point for explorations in the area. One option is to head out by jeep after a hearty Patagonian lunch to see the stunning surroundings and take a short walk to a viewpoint from which 360° views unfurl to reveal a wonderland of glaciers, lakes, Andean peaks and the Southern Patagonian ice cap. You can spend a night or two at the estancia if you wish, with chances to go hiking or simply relax and make the most of its glorious isolation.
